Analysis
The Police Department currently maintains two patrol boats for law enforcement operations that primarily occur on Joe Pool Lake. One of these boats, a 1997 Sea Ark, is over 20 years old in service life and is no longer practical due to age and the development and expansion of the Public Safety Dive Team. The replacement boat, a “SAFE 27 - walk around cabin” from SAFE Boats International, LLC., will enhance the overall mutual aid capabilities of the Lake Unit. The replacement boat contains updated electronics for rescue and recovery operations, satisfies the special needs of the Public Safety Dive Team, and houses a 600hp motor that increases the overall capabilities of the Lake Unit for law enforcement and water safety operations.
A prepaid deposit of $10,000 for the boat is required by the vendor in order to begin its manufacture and will be paid upon Council approval. The remaining $293,132.12 will be paid upon completion and delivery.
