Analysis
The FLIR GF x320 Optical Gas Imaging Camera (OGI) will be added to our Hazardous Materials cache of local and regional response capabilities. The OGI camera will allow us to "view" gasses and vapors at levels not currently supported by our detection equipment. This camera gives us the ability to see where Natural Gas or other combustible hydrocarbons may be collecting or spreading. It will more accurately enable us to determine evacuation necessity in the event of an inevitable release. In addition to the emergency response aspect, the camera can also be utilized to inspect gas-well platforms and sites for regulatory compliance with environmental emissions. The GPFD Hazardous Materials team is now a regional responding team so this camera will be a regional asset available to other jurisdictions.
Funding has been granted through the 2019 UASI - HAZMAT Detection Enhancement grant in the amount of $100,762.17.
Local government code 252 provides an exemption from the competitive bid process when an item or service is available from only one source, of which FLIR is the sole vendor in providing GF x320 Optical Gas Imaging Camera.
