Analysis
May 1, 2018 the Fire Department entered into a two year agreement to access patient demographics and insurance information online, utilizing NSure's insurance discovery software, for the purpose of filing medical claims for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provided by the Fire Department. A monthly base subscription fee of $499 includes 200 transactions, additional transactions are charged at $2.50 per transaction. The Fire Department, through its EMS Billing Division, submits patient demographics obtained at the scene into the NSure, Inc software to discover and verify patient and insurance information. This information assists with the submission of accurate claims to Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance. It also provides a last known valid address for private payers.
Cumulative to date $26,655.50 has been previously spent on this agreement; this requested Council action tonight is to authorize CMO to renew the agreement for one year and add four additional one-year renewal options available to the City should the City Manager authorize those renewals in future years which will have cumulatively surpassed $50,000 therefore requiring City Council approval.
