Analysis
This project was identified and approved during the FY20/21 budget process for funding.
The scope of the project includes the planning and engineering work required to complete the design and construction of natural vegetated slope protection along the north side of the homes at Kaylie Street in Grand Prairie. The observed slope erosion is along the southern bank of a swale that runs east to west along the north side of the homes at Kaylie Street.
The design will be confined to the open channel area where the erosion is occurring. No other erosion improvements will be designed beyond the channel limits. The proposed channel will be restored to its previous grades. The channel side slopes will be regraded and protected natural vegetated slope protection. The capacity of this open channel will not be increased or decreased due to the project. No utilities will be designed for the project. Underground irrigation lines will be removed and replaced at the same location as originally constructed.
No construction work is to be done within the limits of the Grand Oaks Golf Club property, however access to the site location may need to be obtained by the golf club owner.
The proposed work plan has been divided into three phases: Phase 1 - Preliminary Design, Phase II - Final Design and Phase III - Construction Services.
Chapter 252, Section 22 of the Local Government Code allows for the exemption to competitive bidding when the expenditure is for Professional Services such as engineering services.
