Analysis
the City has had a drainage study performed that identified the existing Duncan Perry Bridge as a chokepoint/restriction point along the creek and is contibuting to drainag eissues in the area. The drainage report recommends that the restriction should be removed when the bridge is replaced. The roadway approaching the bridge is also shown to be in the existing floodplain.
Cobb Fendley has evaluated the Duncan Perry Bridge and determiend that it cannot be rehabilitated to meet current design standards and should be replaced. This bridge was construction in the 1940's and is currently over 70 years old. The estimated lifespan of a bridge built at the that time was 25 to 40 years. The bridge has served its life span well, but it does not meet current design and safety standards.
Based on the City Thoroughfare Plan, this street is classified as a minor arterial, 4 lanes undivided (M4U). The bridge should either be built as a 4 lane undivided bridge to meet the ultiamte configuration or as a two lane undivided bridge and allow for a future adjacent 2 lane undivided bridge to be built to meet the ultiamte 4 lane configuration.
