Analysis
Funding for sidewalks for fiscal year 2018 totaled $600,000. Due to customer demand, we have expended all of these funds and have a backlog of customer requests. All of these are for sidewalk repair and/or replacement primarily caused by our highly active soils.
Sidewalks damaged by utility cuts are paid for by the respective utility, including our water & sewer utility as well as the franchise utilities.
No funding was allocated for fiscal year 2017 for guard rails due to lack of necessity. At the current time, funding is requested due to guard rail damage that has since occurred.
Financial Consideration
We believe this amount will be enough for the remainder of the fiscal year. We have increased the requested amount in the proposed 2018 budget for residential sidewalks to a more realistic number in order to meet increasing customer requests.
