Analysis
The 84th Texas Legislature passed House Bill 2763, which required a study of the Economic Impacts of Recycling. Results of this study have been recently been released. Based on the tons of municipal solid waste recycling reported, the 2015 municipal solid waste recycling rate in Texas was 22.7 percent. This is responsible for saved landfill space and more than “17,000 person years of direct, indirect, and induced employment supported during 2015,” according to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. This briefing session will share Grand Prairie recycling, set-out and diversion rates as well as opportunities for growth in the area of recycling and composting.
