Analysis
The replacement of four ambulances and related equipment is a planned Fire Department project for the FY 2017/2018. The cab and chassis will be purchased by Fleet Services separately from the ambulance box for a savings of $13,136 and delivered to Frazer for the completed box mounting.
In FY 2016/2017 the Fire Department remounted four ambulances on new chassis, however, it is not the recommendation for future replacement of ambulances. For what seemed to be a $13,000 savings was reduced by a third of the cost for damages that were later found as each unit was being refurbished.
Ambulances throughout the city are equipped with sole-source vendor Stryker's Power-load and Power Pro Cot system. The new ambulances would be equipped with the same system at a cost of $98,996 for the Power-load system. The purchase of the Power Pro Cots that are used in conjunction with the Power-Load system are requested in council agenda item 17-7233. Other equipment to be installed including 4 dual head radios, make ready and the replacement of loose equipment is estimated at a cost of $123,630.
Financial Consideration
Funding of $970,163.86 for the replacement of four (4) ambulances and related equipment is available in the Fire Capital Projects Fund (400591) WO #01800903 (FY18 Replacement Ambulances)
