Analysis

On April 5, 2016, the City of Grand Prairie awarded a construction contract to McMahon Contracting, Inc. in the amount of $3,018,611.49 and approved a 5% contingency of $150,930 for a total of $3,169,541.49 for the Capetown Drive paving, drainage, and wastewater improvements project.

The current proposed Amendment/Change Order No. 4 in the net amount of (-$187,367.49) provides for the adjustment of three fire hydrants to match the finished grade of the reconstructed street as well as five concrete fire hydrant pads around existing fire hydrants. This Amendment also provides for various project quantity adjustments in anticipation of finalizing and closing the project.

Amendment/Change Order No. 1 approved by City Council on September 6, 2016 in the net amount of $54,908.51 provided for additional saw cutting of existing concrete pavement, the extension of a bore for the new 8” wastewater line in order to safely cross under a large storm drain line, and approximately 350 linear feet of 8” wastewater line which had to be removed and re-installed in order to achieve a lower elevation.

Amendment/Change Order No. 2 approved by the City on January 5, 2017 in the net amount of $30,129.00 provided for additional saw cutting and removal of existing concrete pavement, removal and replacement of additional concrete sidewalk and storm drain inlet tops along Carrier Parkway at the intersection with Capetown Drive, additional barrier free ramps, concrete stair treads for lead walks to some homes along Capetown Drive, and a 6-inch to 18-inch variable height curb wall along the front of some yards where a significant grade change now exists.

Amendment/Change Order No. 3 approved by the City Council on March 7, 2017 in the net amount of $9,834.00 provided for the construction of two 10-foot long modified combination curb inlets instead of the 10-foot recessed inlets shown on the construction plans.  The modified combination curb inlets were necessary because one existing inlet had a gas line located directly behind it, and the other existing inlet had a water line locate directly behind it.  The presence of these two utility lines did not allow for enough space to safely construct the two recessed inlets as shown on the construction plans.

The current anticipated project completion date for this construction contract is July 1, 2017.
