Analysis
With the opening of the new Fire Station No. 1 on W. Main St., the old fire station location across from the City Hall Annex became vacant. A potential new restaurant development is now interested in renovating the old fire station into a premier restaurant for the downtown area. In order to incentivize the restaurant developers, the City would like to replace the aging water and wastewater infrastructure serving this location and adjacent businesses from Center Street to NW 6th Street. The existing water and wastewater infrastructure is some of the original infrastructure in the City, and replacing it will allow the infrastructure to meet modern engineering standards and potentially attract other development along the corridor across W. Main St. from the City Center complex.
On April 15, 2014, the City Council awarded an engineering and surveying services contract to KSA Engineers, Inc. in the amount of $192,300 for design and consulting services for the Main Street and Jefferson Street Area Storm Drain Improvements project. In order to expedite the design and re-construction of the water and wastewater infrastructure behind the old fire station location, KSA Engineers was selected due to their familiarity with the area. The estimated total construction cost to replace the water and wastewater infrastructure between Center Street and NW 6th Street is $610,000.
Design of this project will be scheduled to begin in February 2016 with anticipated completion in April/May 2016.
