Analysis

The Texas Election Code, Chapter 67, "Canvassing Elections," states that the local canvass shall take place not earlier than the eighth day or later than the 11th day after the election.  The last day to canvass the votes of the May 5, 2018 election is May 16, 2018.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF GRAND PRAIRIE, TEXAS, CANVASSING AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE MAY 5, 2018 GENERAL ELECTION FOR PROPOSITION A, CHARTER AMENDMENT TO REMOVE THE RESTRICTION FOR GRANTING A LEASE OR FRANCHISE OF CITY PROPERTY FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS; COUNCIL MEMBER, DISTRICT 5; COUNCIL MEMBER, DISTRICT 6, AND COUNCIL MEMBER, PLACE 8 AT LARGE

 

Whereas,   on the 5th day of May, 2017 a General Election and a Special Election were held in the City of Grand Prairie, Texas, for an amendment to the City Charter, Article II, "MUNICIPAL BOUNDARIES," Section 18, "Franchises and Special Privileges"; Council Member, District 5; Council Member, District 6; and Council Member, Place 8 at large; and

 

Whereas,                      such election was duly held and proper return of results made by those officials charged with the responsibility of holding such elections; and

 

Whereas,                      the City Council in open session has canvassed such votes and determined that all returns are in proper order and the election correctly conducted;

 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas that:

 

Section 1.  The results of the special election for Proposition A, a Charter Amendment to Article II, "Municipal Boundaries," Section 18, "Franchises and Special Privileges" are as follows:

 

                                          FOR:                                            2,657 votes

                                          AGAINST:                        1,156 votes

 

The votes FOR Proposition A exceed the votes AGAINST and is hereby delcared passed.

                     

Section 2.  For the office of Council Member, District 5:

 

                     Juan R. Perez received 119 votes

                     Cole Humphreys received 424 votes

                     Bill Moser received 71 votes

 

Cole Humphreys received a majority of the votes, and is hereby declared the winner and elected to the office of Council Member, District 5;

 

SECTION 3.  For the office of Council Member, District 6:

 

                     Keith Walker received 410 votes

                     Jeff Wooldridge received 728 votes

 

Jeff Wooldridge received a majority of the votes, and is hereby declared the winner and elected to the office of Council Member, District 6;

 

SECTION 4.  For the office of Council Member, Place 8 at large:

 

                     Greg Giessner received 2,414 votes

                     Aurelio Castillo received 663 votes

                     Johnetta Milner received 644 votes

 

Greg Giessner received a majority of the votes, and is hereby declared the winner and elected to the office of Council Member, Place 8 at large

 

SECTION 5.  That all election returns from the City voting precincts in which polling took place in the City of Grand Prairie for the May 5, 2018 General and Special Elections, the same are made part of this Resolution (Exhibit A).
