Analysis
Opening in 2004, Grand Prairie Memorial Gardens offered 4,896 spaces in five gardens; to date, two gardens have been sold out and less than 1,100 spaces remain available for purchase. With the initial construction, grounds were developed and prepared for future expansion(s).
In Phase II, developed grounds will be surveyed, plots staked, and other ground improvements incorporated to enhance the needed expansion. This phase will add approximately 2,500 spaces and will include an additional Baby Garden and an upright monument section. Future build out and development of Grand Prairie Memorial Gardens will require added infrastructure and road(s) as this will reach into undeveloped areas of Grand Prairie Memorial Garden grounds.
This item was presented to the Finance and Government Committee on November 6, 2018 and received recommendation for approval by the City Council.
Financial Consideration
Funding for Phase II Cemetery Development, in the amount of $50,000, is available by approving an ordinance transferring and appropriating from the unobligated fund balance in the Cemetery Replacement Fund (3191).
