Analysis
Staff received a request for the installation of a reduced speed school zone at this intersection. Upon our invetigation, staff confirmed that this school zone is warranted. This school zone will provide a safe route to school for children living south of Pioneer Parkway that attend Kennedy Middle School.
Staff recommends that a reduced speed limit school zone be established on E. Pioneer Parkway (State Spur 303) from 300' East of Corn Valley Road to 300' West of Corn Valley Road.
Financial Consideration
The new 20 mph, reduced school speed zones will be established using flasher assemblies and static signs. The cost for the installation of the school zone flasher assemblies and 4 signs is estimated at $10,500 and funding is available in the Streets Capital Projects Fund (400192), WO#09904003 (FY 09 High Accident Locations) 68540

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF GRAND PRAIRIE, TEXAS, AMENDING SCHEDULE III OF THE TRAFFIC REGISTER DESIGNATED STREETS WITH REDUCED MAXIMUM SPEED LIMITS LESS THAN 30 MPH; CONTAINING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING AN ENFORCEMENT CLAUSE; AND TO BECOME EFFECTIVE UPON ITS PASSAGE, APPROVAL AND PUBLICATION.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND PRAIRIE, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT Schedule III - Reduced Maximum Speed Limits less than 30 mph shall be amended by adding the following:

SECTION 2. THAT this section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase, or portion of this ordinance is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such shall be deemed a separate, distinct and independent provision and such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions thereof.
SECTION 3. THAT All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed and that this ordinance shall be effective upon passage and publication.
