Analysis
Jackson Middle School and Zavala Elementary School, both Grand Prairie ISD schools, have an existing shared school zone on Beatty Drive. The west end of the zone needs to be extended to include the intersection of Michael Drive along Beatty Drive. Also, the north end of an existing school zone on Corn Valley Road, for Bush Elementary School, needs to be extended to include the intersection of Clearwood Drive along Corn Valley Road.
In order to allow Austin Elementary School to separate younger and older grades into two pickup/drop-off areas, the existing one-way segment along Burleson Street needs to be removed to permit parents access to both areas.
Students from Reagan Middle School walk west to cross S. Carrier Parkway at Queens Way in the afternoons. Because of the distance away from the school, they are reaching this location later and the zone on Carrier needs to be adjusted to completely cover when they are arriving. The afternoon school zone effective times need to be 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
An existing school zone on Robinson Road north of Freetown Road was initially established for Milam Elementary School. Robinson Road is now the boundary line between Milam and Moore Elementary Schools. However, there are now children crossing here to reach Advantage Academy on Freetown Road, so the afternoon effective times of this zone are being changed to match the Advantage Academy zones as 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Students from the surrounding neighborhood are crossing Robinson Road at Valley Brook Lane to access a GPISD bus stop that serves a few campuses including the Young Women’s and Young Men’s Leadership Academies. A new zone is being established on Robinson Road to protect the crossing location at Valley Brook Lane.
There are four zones that need edits to amend the Traffic Register from how they were previously listed.
Financial Consideration
All costs associated with these school zone adjustments in the field will be paid out of the Street operating budget.
