Analysis
Shortly after the airport's newest flight school began operations an issue was discovered causing a bottle neck of departing aircraft at the south end of Taxiway A and the associated holding bay. The design and construction of Taxiway A and Holding Bay Extension at the Grand Prairie Municipal Airport will alleviate the issue and allow aircraft traffic to flow and takeoff in a more expedient manner. TxDOT's estimated total project cost including engineering, design and construction is $1,440,300 with the City's responsibility being 20% of the total project cost currently estimated to be $288,060. The City's responsibility for the engineering and design portions of the project is estimated to be $39,000 in FY 2018 and the remaining $249,060 will be for the construction of Taxiway A and Holding Bay Extension in FY 2019.
Financial Consideration
Funds are available for the design of Taxiway A and Holding Bay Extension at the Grand Prairie Municipal Airport, in the amount of $39,000, in the Airport Capital Projects Fund (505292) to WO# 01817001 (Taxiway A and Holding Bay Extension). Funds for the construction of said project, in the amount of $249,060 will be part of the FY 2018/2019 Proposed Airport Capital Projects Fund.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF GRAND PRAIRIE, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING IMPROVEMENTS TO THE GRAND PRAIRIE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT BY THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF TAXIWAY A AND HOLDING BAY EXTENSION
WHEREAS, the City of Grand Prairie intends to make certain improvements to the Grand Prairie Municipal Airport; and
WHEREAS, the general description of the project is described as: widen hangar access taxilane for standards; extend Taxiway Alpha south to connect to RWY 35 threshold; and construct aircraft hold bay and run-up area at south end of runway
WHEREAS, the City of Grand Prairie intends to request financial assistance from the Texas Department of Transportation for these improvements; and
WHEREAS, total project cost are estimated to be $1,440,300, and the City of Grand Prairie will be responsible for 20% of the total project costs currently estimated to be $288,060; and
WHEREAS, the City of Grand Prairie names the Texas Department of Transportation as its agent for the purposes of applying for, receiving and disbursing all funds for these improvements and for the administration of contracts necessary for the implementation of these improvements.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Grand Prairie hereby directs the City Manager to execute on behalf of the City of Grand Prairie, at the appropriate time, and with the appropriate authorizations of this governing body, all contracts and agreements with the State of Texas, represented by the Texas Department of Transportation, and such other parties as shall be necessary and appropriate for the implementation of the improvements to the Grand Prairie Municipal Airport.
