Analysis
One of the primary missions of the Public Works Department, Street Maintenance Division, is to maintain the City's streets in good condition to provide safe and comfortable riding surfaces. The total street system consists of approximately 587 center lane miles of streets. The Street Maintenance Sales Tax Program and budgeted expenditures are targeted to those locations where maintenance can restore a roadway to a higher standard and/or extend the useful life of the roadway. The use of the ΒΌ Cent Sales Tax for Street Maintenance Program is to fund the City's Hot Mix Asphalt Overlay, the Asphalt Recycling, the Concrete Curb/Gutter and Panel Replacement, Pavement Leveling and the Alley Improvement Program. A Pavement Condition Rating and Inventory program is used to assist in knowing where to spend resources for the most cost-effective manner.

The Public Works Department has adopted a Bi-Annual Field Rating System. The FY13 survey was completed on August 7, 2012. The next field rating survey will be completed by January 2015.
