Analysis
On Tuesday, February 18, 2014 the City of Grand Prairie awarded a construction contract to Humphrey & Morton Construction Company, Inc. for Cedar Creek and Prairie Creek Miscellaneous Erosion Project in the total amount of $943,558.80.

This project was identified as part of the FY12 Capital Projects Budget and Capital Projects Plan for Proposed Storm Drainage Projects and provides erosion protection features at four (4) locations along Prairie Creek and ten (10) locations along Cedar Creek to also provide erosion protection at wastewater creek crossings.

The current change order/amendment No. 2 in the total net amount of -$96,425.70 is primarily due to adjustments required due to field conditions for the improvements along the various locations along Prairie and Cedar Creek. During excavation along Cedar Creek Location #8, it was discovered that rock rip rap existed for a large portion of the creek identified for improvements, which resulted in a substantial decrease in work item quantities. Due to field conditions at various locations, adjustments has to be made to add or decrease installation of rock rip-rap and gabions to include adjustments to the capping of existing wastewater main, and other related miscellaneous items of work.

Change order No. 1 in the amount of $37,391.71 was approved by the City on June 9, 2014 to included quantity increases along Prairie Creek. The changes included adjustments to raise a gabion wall due to steep grades, adjustments to a headwall to include repairs due to pipe separation, and grouting of rock rip rap.

The revised contract completion date will be November 20, 2014.
