Analysis

In January of 2012 the City of Grand Prairie Office of Emergency Management submitted proposals for projects, listed below, to the NCTCOG who in turn submitted them to the State for funding.

On October 2, 2012 the City of Grand Prairie Office of Emergency Management was awarded the FY2012 Urban Area Security Initiative Law Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Activity Grant in the amount of $64,768.26.

The purpose of this grant is to purchase radio equipment to provide interoperability for our public safety and first responders.

The City of Grand Prairie is part of the North Texas Interoperable Communications Coalition. The North Texas Interoperable Communications Coalition (NTICC) was founded in December 2009 as the representative of 27 jurisdictions and agencies to plan, build and operate a state of the art Project 25 compliant communications system in the region. P25 compliance is interoperable voice communications through-out the state of Texas that will be required of all law enforcement and public safety agencies by 2015. NTICC has developed this project to provide an immediate interoperable capability for public safety personnel when the mobile radios receive the P25 enhancement. This grant would allow the City of Grand Prairie Police Department the ability to provide software to enhance our existing public safety radios to P25 compliance or to purchase additional 14 APEX 6000 portable radios.
