Analysis
On March 22, 2016 a contract with KSA Engineers for the reconstruction of Taxiway B on the west side of Grand Prairie Municipal airport in the amount of $71,200 was approved by Council (16-5479). KSA Engineers was familiar with both the failure and the condition of the current facilities at Grand Prairie Municipal Airport.
Taxiway B extends from the main runway to Airbus Helicopters, Inc. located on the west side of the airport. Airbus Helicopters, Inc. operates under an FAA approved Through-the-Fence agreement. The taxiway runs above and across a corrugated steel drainage pipe. The subgrade and surrounding area had begun to fail due to erosion. KSA Engineers were asked to study how to accomplish repairs and study ways to prevent future failures in the area. At this time, they have completed the study, design and prepared bid documents.
Change Order/Amendment No. 1 approved June 20, 2016 in the amount of $6,325 allowed for additional services for closed circuit television of existing storm drain.
The current Change Order/Amendment No. 2 includes design services to prepare a construction package that will include the channel improvements from the drainage study recommendations and the TW 'B" Culvert Replacement; construction administration; construction materials testing, resident project representative; and project closeout services. They have provided a proposal for this additional work at a total cost of $75,000.
