Analysis
On January 24, 2017 The City of Grand Prairie awarded a Construction contract with Texas Standard Construction in the amount of $1,817,178.40 for the Main Street and Jefferson Area Storm Drain Improvements project; Material testing with Reed Engineering in the amount of $26,171.00; In-house labor distribution in the amount of $90,859.00; 5% contract contingency in the amount of $90,859.00; for a total project cost of $2,025,067.40

Proposed Change order (Amendment) No.2 provides for various plan revisions and adjustments of the proposed storm drain improvements due to an unknown 42” storm drain that has been determined to extend under the private duplexes north of Dallas street and west under a private grocery store to drain the general area in the net amount of $333,965.05

Staff working closely with the KSA Engineers, the Consulting firm on this project have field determined the exact location of this main as stated above. A design has been provided to re-route this storm drain along existing alleys and east along Dallas Street to connect to the existing storm drain system within dedicated street right-of-ways and easements. Once relocated, the existing storm drain under the duplexes and the grocery store will be filled in and abandoned in place.

Change order (Amendment) No.1 in the amount of $93,220 provided for various plan revisions and adjustments of the proposed storm drain improvements due to several unforeseeable conflicts with existing utilities throughout the construction area. This change order also provides for hand tunneling storm drain pipes.
