Analysis
Cobb Fendley Engineers have previously evaluated the Duncan Perry Bridge and determined that it cannot be rehabilitated to meet current design standards. However, they did identify certain repairs and improvements that should be undertaken until the bridge can be replaced. This bridge was constructed in 1939 and is currently over 70 years old. We have plans to replace this bridge at a later date, hoping to utilize funding assistance from the State since the bridge is eligible for State assistance due to its' age and structural condition. We are applying for this program but are advised that funding could take several years.
Therefore, we proposed to award a design contract to Cobb, Fendley & Associates to provide the needed engineering work for needed rehabilitation and repairs to the bridge in order to be sure to maintain its' current load rating of 40,000 pounds. Most of this work will be under the bridge in the channel and cause minimal traffic disruption.
