Analysis
Taxiway B extends from the main runway to Airbus Helicopters, Inc. located on the west side of the airport. Airbus Helicopters, Inc. operates under an FAA approved Through-the-Fence agreement. The taxiway runs above and across a corrugated steel drainage pipe. The subgrade and surrounding area have begun to fail due to erosion. Action is urgently needed to plan and execute repairs in order prevent failure of the taxiway.
KSA Engineers is familiar with both the failure and the condition of the current facilities at Grand Prairie Municipal Airport. They were asked to provide a proposal on how to accomplish repairs and study ways to prevent future failures in the area. They have provided a proposal to do the study, design and prepare bid documents at a total cost of $71,200.
Financial Consideration
Funding for the Engineering/Design Contract with KSA Engineers for reconstruction of Taxiway B on the west side, in the amount of $71,200 is available in the Airport Capital Projects Fund (505292) WO #01600201 (Design North Creek Encasement).
