Analysis
On November 2, 2011 the City Council approved traffic signal construction contract with Durable Specialties, Inc. for constructing four new traffic signals in the amount of $428,000.
Change order No. 1 with Durable Specialties, Inc. in the amount of $ 12,313 was for installation of a pole for wireless signal communications.
Change Order No. 2 in an amount of $91,443 is for installation of traffic signal at Forum and SH 161 frontage roads.
Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) removed traffic signal at Forum Drive (formerly Crossland) and SH 161 frontage roads since Forum Drive was not constructed. Forum Drive that intersects with SH 161 frontage roads was opened to traffic on June 19, 2012. Staff has conducted warrant analysis and it meets the warrants for installation of traffic signal at Forum Drive & SH 161 frontage roads.
Durable Specialties, Inc, has previously installed conduits, ground boxes, and signal pole foundations under TXDOT contract for installation of traffic signal at Forum Drive and SH 161 frontage roads and currently constructing four new traffic signals in the City of Grand Prairie.
Staff proposes to use Durable Specialties, Inc. to complete traffic signal construction at Forum Drive and SH 161 frontage roads. We propose a change order to the four signal construction project in the amount of $91,443.00 and extend the contract period to December 31, 2012 for Durable Specialties, Inc. to complete traffic signal construction at Forum Drive and SH 161 frontage roads.
