Analysis

Pavements expand and contract with seasonal temperature changes causing cracks and joints in the pavement to separate.  Crack and Joint Sealing is used to fill these cracks to prevent the infiltration of water into the road bed.  The Crack and Joint Sealing is also used as a prelude to an asphalt overlay or roadway seal coat maintenance.

 

Notice of bid # 16133 was viewed by 17 vendors including two Grand Prairie vendors who did not respond.  There was one bid received as shown on Attachment A.  Vendors were requested to provide pricing per linear foot for both Crack Sealing and Joint Sealing services.

 

The low bid received from Curtco, Inc. meets all specifications and is recommended for award.  The price bid is less than expected.

 

Financial Consideration

Funding for a price agreement for Hot-Applied Joint and Crack Sealing Services with Curtco, Inc. is available in the Streets Capital Projects Fund (400192) WO #01606603 (FY16 Seal Coat) -63030 (Streets, Roads & Highway Maintenance).  Funding for future years will be paid from that year's approved budget.
