Analysis
Two replacement ambulances were approved by council March 4, 2014 File Number 14-3457. The air suspension system initially quoted has been discontinued. The option to replace with a similar air ride system is available, however, a liquid spring system is available at a cost of $2,500 per unit for a total of $5,000. It is both the Fire Department and Equipment Service's recommendation to upgrade to the liquid spring system. The liquid spring system is expected to require less maintenance decreasing costs and less down time. This system was not presented as an option initially but has recently been presented and discussed with and also recommended by Gary Nichols.
Financial Consideration
Funding for upgrading the air suspension system to a liquid spring system for the two ambulances currently in production at a total cost of $5,000 is available by approving an ordinance transferring and appropriating from the unobligated fund balance in the Fire Capital Projects Fund (400591) to WO #01401003 (FY14 Ambulance Replacement).
