Analysis
On June 25, 2018, we experienced a water break on the 8" cast iron water line on Jefferson St. The water break was caused from deterioration of the line. This pipe is a type that requires a special repair process, which we do not have the in-house capability to perform.
Since lack of this connection impairs water and fire flow for the entire north part of the City, it was imperative that we restored the connection as soon as possible.
Local government code 252 allows for an exemption from the bid process for procurement necessary because of unforeseen damage to public machinery, equipment, or other property. Due to the critical nature of this emergency, we requested and were approved to waive the normal bidding procedures and awarded contract to North Texas Contracting, Inc. in the amount of $111,175.05.
Financial Consideration
Funding for the emergency in the amount of $111,175.05 is available in FY 2017/2018 Water WasteWater Operating Fund, Water Distribution (361211) Water Mains Maintenance (63095) and will be charged accordingly.
