Analysis

The Fire Department will use the agreement to purchase and maintain existing equipment and to replace defective equipment at an annual approximate cost of $18,000.  The SCBA equipment provides the highest level of respiratory protection against airborne contaminants and oxygen deficiency.

State purchasing laws, Local Government Code, Chapter 271, authorize local governments to enter into joint contacts and cooperative agreements for the performance of governmental functions normally associated with the operation of government such as purchasing necessary materials and supplies.

The City approved a Master Inter-local agreement with the City of Austin whereby the City could make use of all of that entities agreement.  This communication is to notify the Council that staff would like to make use of this particular agreement and enter into an annual contract with Vendor for item or service to purchase for the initial three (3) month term and any of optional one-year renewals as executed by the City of Austin.

Financial Consideration

Funds are available in FY 2016/2017 General Fund Budget - Fire Emergency Operations (291210-63040).  Funding for future fiscal years will be paid from that year’s approved budgets.
