Analysis
Funds in the amount of $55,000 was appropriated in the Park Capital Projects fund for replacement of fitness equipment at the Tony Shotwell Life Center. Staff recommends purchasing equipment offered by Marathon Fitness on BuyBoard as an alternative to bidding the equipment ourselves. The recommendation includes cardio equipment and weights.
The price quote submitted by Team Marathon Fitness for the equipment is $54,954.99.
Chapter 791 of the Texas Government Code, also known as the Interlocal Cooperation Contracts Act, authorizes all local governments to contract with each other to perform governmental functions or services including administrative functions normally associated with the operations of government such as purchasing of necessary equipment supplies and services. The City of Grand Prairie does not need to competitively bid items purchased through such agreements as they have already been bid by the sponsoring entity of agency. The City of Grand Prairie has master interlocal cooperative agreements with various entities including BuyBoard.
BuyBoard contract # 502-16 was effective April 1, 2016 and set to expire March 31, 2019.
Financial Consideration
Funding for this equipment is available in the Park Capital Projects Fund (317193), WO #01804003 (FY18 Fitness Equipment Replacement), 60520 (Minor Equipment) for $37,080 and 68360 (Other Equipment) for $17,920.
