Analysis
The City of Grand Prairie is situated within the expanding Dallas - Fort Worth Metroplex. This combination of varied; urban, suburban, commercial, and industrial growth necessitates robust housing standards and codes for the positive future development of the City and the citizens it serves. The Housing Department’s critical part in this part of the City’s development is to change the tiered assessment system in order to accurately assess the housing developers, corporations, and individuals who are responsible to adhere to these standards.
The Police Department’s participation in this quality of life issue extends into the enforcement of the various housing standards and codes in order to fully ensure that citizens of the City continue to enjoy positive development of the City. The Police Department seeks to obtain full participation by making it mandatory to join the Crime Free Multi-Housing program from all who develop, own, or manage housing in the City.
The Public Safety, Health and Environmental Committee reviewed this item on May 2, 2016 and recommended that it be forwarded to the City Council for approval.
