Analysis
A 68.731 acre tract has been transferred from the developer to the Texas Parks and Recreation Foundation for the purpose of the City applying for a Texas Parks and Wildlife matching acquisition and development grant. The Foundation supports municipal Parks and Recreation Department through temporary retentions of proposed park land while the City prepare a grant application.
The acreage was a part of the former Great Southwest Country Club and has natural features including mature shade trees, existing ponds, a portion of Johnson Creek and riparian and native woodlands. The unique characteristics of the site should score highly with Texas Parks and Wildlife grant criteria. The developer committed to donate the property which will serve as a portion of the City's local matching share for the grant application.
TP & W requires a public hearing and resolution by local bodies as part of the application process.
Financial Consideration
In addition to the land value as matching share for the grant application, staff is recommending $400,000 to fund improvements proposed in the Phase 1 Park Master Plan for this site.
