Analysis
Based upon current pedestrian crossing activity, staff recommends amending Schedule III of the Traffic Register by modifying seven existing school zones for the campuses of Spencer Elementary, Advantage Academy, Bowie Elementary, and Zavala Elementary. In addition, staff recommends establishing a new school zone for Spencer Elementary school and establishing two new school zones for a new AISD school, Diane Patrick Elementary, opening this school year. All of these zones will be active from 7:15 am until 9:00 am and from 3:00 pm until 4:30 pm on school days.
Financial Consideration
The new 20 mph reduced speed school zones will be established using solar powered flashers and/or static signs. Funding for the costs associated with these new speed school zones is available in the FY 2014/2015 General Fund Budget, Signs and Markings Maintenance Budget, account 251910-63115.
