Analysis
On February 2, 2016, City Council Approved an Engineering and surveying services contract in the total amount of $545,200 with Kimley-Horn and Associates for Project Development Study and 30 Percent Design of Great Southwest Parkway from IH-20 to Mayfield Road. The project improvements provided for widening the roadway from four lanes to six lanes to help improve traffic circulation on Great Southwest Parkway north of IH-20 to Mayfield Road and would also help the Traders Village traffic.
This contract provided for professional engineering and surveying services for Phase I of a two phase approach to perform a project development study to evaluate paving, drainage, and City utility capital improvements along and development of 30% design for Great Southwest Parkway from IH-20 north to the intersection with Mayfield Road.

Phase I of this project included the following items:
- Performing a traffic study of Great Southwest Parkway between the IH-20 westbound frontage road and Mayfield Road, and identify potential capital improvement projects along this corridor
- Identify impacts to adjacent properties and existing infrastructure.
- Identity roadway operational and capacity improvement options and alternatives
- Traffic impacts
- Corridor constraints
- Franchise utility impacts
- City utility impacts
- Potential City utility extensions
- Construction of a multi-span bridge at Prairie Creek crossing (box culverts are currently in place at this location)
