Analysis
In addition to the General Election to elect Council Member District One, Council Member District Three, Council Member, Place 7 at large, a Special Election must be held to reauthorize the local sales and use tax for maintenance and repair of streets. You may recall that special legislation was passed to allow Grand Prairie to ask voters to reauthorize the street sales tax for eight years.
Financial Consideration
Costs for the election will vary depending upon the number of jurisdictions who participate in the joint election with Dallas and Tarrant Counties. Funding is available in salary savings (see attached).

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF GRAND PRAIRIE, TEXAS, CALLING THE GENERAL ELECTION ON MAY 6, 2017, TO ELECT COUNCIL MEMBER DISTRICT ONE, COUNCIL MEMBER DISTRICT THREE, AND COUNCIL MEMBER, PLACE 7 AT LARGE; AND A SPECIAL ELECTION TO REAUTHORIZE A LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX AT THE RATE OF ONE-FOURTH OF ONE PERCENT FOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR OF MUNICIPAL STREETS
WHEREAS, the Uniform Election Date for the City’s General Election has been set as May 6, 2017; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that a special election will be held on May 6, 2017, to determine whether the local sales and use tax in the City of Grand Prairie at the rate of one-fourth of one percent for maintenance and repair of municipal streets, should be reauthorized; and
