Analysis
Staff has secured $330,400 in federal funds for Traffic Management hardware and software upgrade for Center to Center communication with TxDOT Fort Worth, TxDOT Dallas District, and NTTA.
City’s Traffic Management Center (TMC) has been operating Lonestar Software for approximately ten years.
Lonestar software that operates field equipment (CCTV cameras and Changeable Message signs) from Traffic Management Center is capable of adding services that perform other functions. LoneStar software originally developed for Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and currently TxDOT Fort Worth District, TxDOT Dallas District and NTTA operating Lonestar software at their Traffic Management Center. City’s Lonestar software upgrade will be configured with a key objective of facilitating exchange of data and video with other transportation agencies (TxDOT) through implementation of Center to Center communications. Additionally, Grand Prairie Traffic Website will be updated to inform public of incidents, constructions, and road closures due to high water and/or other type of incidents.
The new system is an upgrade of the existing Lonestar software and SWRI is the only firm capable of providing the system upgrades being considered by City of Grand Prairie Transportation Services.
