Analysis
The Public Safety Building (PSB) was constructed and occupied in 2010. In the five years that the building has been occupied, Facility Services and the Police Department have identified issues with the facility’s HVAC system. Due to the complex nature of the building’s design, many of these issues were not immediately detected when the building was occupied. Staff from the City Managers Office, Facility Services, and the Police Department have reached out to DYNA TEN for a proposed resolution to the issues affecting the PSB. DYNA TEN is the original installer of this unique HVAC system, therefore, is best able to provide necessary changes. These proposed improvements to the PSB’s HVAC system will allow the system to run at optimal levels, and will increase the life of the HVAC equipment.
Financial Consideration
Funding for Authorizing the City Manager to enter into a contract with DYNA TEN to provide labor and materials to modify the temperature controls and HVAC systems to correct air distribution issues in the amount of $321,000 at the Police and Fire Public Safety Building (PSB) is available by approving an ordinance transferring and appropriating from the unobligated fund balance in the Capital Reserve Fund (402590) WO #01513403 (HVAC PSB Improvements) 68540 construction.
