Analysis
On December 11, 2018 the City Council approved Change Order/Amendment No. 1 (18-8498) with Merriman Anderson Architects (MAA) in the amount of $650,000 for conceptual design completion and schematic design services for all elements associated with the new EpicCentral hotel, retail and entertainment destination project.
In order for design services to continue in a productive fashion while maintaining the current overall schedule, geotechnical information regarding the existing site is critical to obtain and provide to the Architect and Structural/Civil Engineers. Based on their familiarity with EpicCentral and productive partnership on the Epic and Epic Waters projects, CMJ Engineering was selected to provide the detailed geotechnical engineering services required as outlined by the design team.
A final/fully detailed fee proposal in the total amount of $69,700 was received by CMJ Engineering on January 23, 2019 and was reviewed by City staff and determined to be complete and appropriate for the scope of the work required.
Chapter 252, Section 22 of the Local Government Code allows for the exemption to competitive bidding when the expenditure is for Professional Services such as geotechnical engineering services.
This item was taken to the Finance and Government Committee on February 5, 2019 for their review and recommendation for approval.
