Analysis
On December 15, 2015, Council awarded a professional services contract to Brandstetter Carroll, Inc. for master planning services to update the 2008 Park Master Plan. The consultant and staff team evaluated current and projected demographics, conducted a series of community input meetings, analyzed a mail out statistically valid survey, conducted site tours of all park sites and facilities within the park system and assessed community recreation needs to determine leisure service and park system needs in Grand Prairie. This 15 month analysis of the park system has resulted in a final document identifying current and projected park system needs.
The adoption of this Master Plan document provides not only an orderly plan for park acquisition and development but also enhances opportunities for state and federal park grants.
The Master Plan will be transmitted to Texas Parks and Wildlife for review prior to Grand Prairie's submission of a matching grant application for the former Great Southwest Golf Course park site acquisition and development.
Financial Consideration
Funding was previously appropriated for the consultant contract on December 15, 2015.
