Analysis
The Warmack Library is a much used and vital part of the community. We’ve increased our popular programming, expanded hours, and increased the number of computers for adults and children. On average, Warmack sees 125,000 people a year, racks up 30,000 hours on the public computers, checks out 100,000 items, issues 2,400 library cards, and hosts 312 programs, which are attended by 10,200 people. The current building is about 10,000 square feet; and we are looking to almost double that to better accommodate the attendance we’ve generated in the pat few years.
For our programs, we regularly exceed capacity of the meeting room, and often spread out program stations throughout library. We’ve repeated our most popular classes to accommodate the crowds. With limited floor space, we’ve managed to add six more adult computers, six children’s computers and carve out a space for a Young Adult collection.
Of emphasis in the expansion will be:
· Expand floor plan to add computer space, seating, study rooms (none currently), imaginative play space for children (very popular at Main), shorter shelving, a teen section and larger children’s section.
· Improve acoustics.
· Enlarge meeting space and staff space.
Deliverables will include:
· Topographic and boundary survey
· Engineering and drainage study
· Review and planning of interior spaces
· Review and planning of building expansion
· Cost Estimate for Budget Development
· Design and documentation for bidding purposes
· Furniture specification for City acquisition
The fee proposal includes structural, mechanical, plumbing and electrical engineering. Money is budgeted in the Capital Budget for this purp...
