In 2012, the City of Grand Prairie received a $50,000 Our Town Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to train participants in the Weed & Seed Job Training Program in the skill of commercial thin-set tile installation while working with an artist to install a tile mural in a visible location in the City. The Grand Prairie Sports Facilities Development Corporation provided the cash match required for the project, which will result in a tile mural on a wall at NE15th Street that is visible from I-30.
In 2014, the City of Grand Prairie was invited to participate in a second round of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts called the Arts Engagement in American Communities Grant. It is designed to deepen the engagement impact of exposure to the arts. This grant program requires an application for a minimum $20,000 grant project with a $10,000 cash match. Grant activities will include the compilation and editing of still shots, video and sound-bytes captured during the Our Town Project into a documentary film showcasing the tile mural, artist, Weed & Seed Job Training Program, the National Endowment for the Arts and the City of Grand Prairie. All grant activities must be concluded by March 31, 2016.
Financial Consideration
The documentary film about the Our Town grant project will cost $30,000. The National Endowment for the Arts has approved the City’s application for a $10,000 grant with the expectation that the City would match the $10,000 by at least $10,000.
