Analysis
The Parks, Arts and Recreation Staff has worked with the Action Park Alliance, Inc. Staff to identify areas of concern and liability that are requiring immediate repairs. The repairs would include replacing portions of Skatelite, (wood sheets) replace structural decking, and remove sections of the base plywood.
Over the past 20 years the expansion/contraction of dry wood has increased significantly in sections, causing studs under the wood sheeting to slip off of ledgers, posing a serious risk of collapse or liability.
As of September 18th, the outdoor skate park at Action Park Alliance has been closed due to the structures being deemed unsafe and at risk of potential injury to patrons.
Staff will seek bids and/or review available cooperative agreements to complete the repairs necessary at the skate park. Should amount exceed $50,000, Council approval will be sought to approve and execute any required contracts.
This item was reviewed by the Finance and Government Committee on October 15, 2019 for their recommendation and approval.
Financial Consideration
Funding for structural repairs at Action Park Alliance in an amount not to exceed $50,000 is available by approving an ordinance transferring and appropriating $50,000 from the unobligated fund balance in the Parks Capital Project Fund (317193) to WO #02013303 (FY20 Skate Park Improvements).
