Analysis
On September 20, 2016, the City of Grand Prairie awarded a construction contract to Canary Construction, Inc. in the amount of $620,915.00 and approved a 5% contingency of $31,046 for a total of $651,961.00 for the Main Street Water and Wastewater Improvements behind 321 W. Main Street from Center Street to NW 6th Street project.

The current Amendment/Change Order No. 2 in the net amount of $32,718.40 (additions of $66,184.40 and deductions of -$33,466.00) provides for additional pavement repair quantities due to the condition of the existing pavement adjacent to the trenches for the water and wastewater lines, as well as poorly compacted soil under some of the existing pavement that caused trench walls to slough off and undermine some of the existing pavement adjacent to the trenches. Also included are some additional water and wastewater services that were discovered during construction and connected to the new water and wastewater mains. This Amendment/Change Order No. 2 also provides for reconciliation of bid items on the project in advance of finalizing and closing the project.

Amendment/Change Order No. 1 approved by the City Council on February 21, 2017 in the net amount of $45,362.00 provided for additional water services, the replacement of some additional 10-inch water line at a connection to the existing 10-inch water line, additional water line valves fittings required to make the connection to the existing 10-inch water line, and replacement of 15-inch storm drain pipe at a water line crossing.
