Analysis
Grand Prairie Baseball Club, LLC (GPBC) have been the operators of QT Ballpark since April 2011. In order to enhance future ballpark operations, staff is proposing Amendment #2 to the Baseball Sublease Agreement. The key changes proposed include:
1. The Amendment #2 will expire on December 31, 2016.
2. Rent reduction from $200,000 to $0 annually from March 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016.
3. Both the City and GPBC can make repairs to the facility and landscaping, with the cost being split 50/50 between both entities in 2016.
4. City will pay for GPBC’s water, from March 1 to September 30, 2016, GPBC will deposit $14,000 into a City water account.
5. GPBC is required to play 25 minor league games and 25 college baseball games in 2016.
6. GPBC may use the name “Texas Airhogs” or “Grand Prairie Airhogs” for its minor league team in 2016.
Financial Consideration
The City and GPBC will each contribute $50,000 annually to the Baseball Stadium Capital Projects Fund (34093) in 2016. GPBC will get a credit for approved paid receipts for 2016. By December 31, 2016 there will be a settle up of actual costs, each party paying one half of the total costs.
GPBC will contribute $14,000 to the City for its water costs.
Funding for the contract amendments in the amount of $300,000 is available by approving an ordinance transferring and appropriating from the unobligated fund balance in the Baseball Fund (3400) to the Baseball Stadium Capital Projects Fund (340293), WO #01611603 (FY16 Baseball Field Repairs)
