Analysis
Chapter 67, "Canvassing Elections," of the Texas Election Code, states that the local canvass shall take place not earlier than the eighth day or later than the 11th day after election day. At the March 17, 2015, the City Council passed an ordinance declaring unopposed candidates Jeff Wooldridge and Gregg Giessner elected. Therefore, the canvass for this election will be for the office of Council Member District Five for which there were three candidates: Michael E. Elliott; Tony Shotwell; and Gary Ethridge.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF GRAND PRAIRIE, TEXAS, CANVASSING AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE MAY 9, 2015 GENERAL ELECTION FOR COUNCIL MEMBER, DISTRICT 5
Whereas, on the 9th day of May, 2015, a General Election was held in the City of Grand Prairie, Texas, for the office of City Council Member, District 5, and;
Whereas, such election was duly held and proper return of results made by those officials charged with the responsibility of holding such election; and
Whereas, the City Council in open session has canvassed such vote and determined that all returns are in proper order and the election correctly conducted
Whereas, on March 17, 2015 the City Council adopted Ordinance 9831 declaring elected the unopposed candidates (Greg Giessner, Council Member, Place 8 at large; and Jeff Wooldridge, Council Member, District 6); and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas that:
Section 1. That for the office of Council Member, District 5:
Michael E. Elliott received 42 votes
Tony Shotwell received 494 votes
Gary Ethridge received 43 votes
Tony Shotwell received a majority of the votes cast and is hereby declared the winner and elected to the office of Council Member, District 5.
