Analysis
The purchase of a replacement Fire Engine for the Fire Department along with related tools and equipment is a planned purchase for FY2017. The Fire Department and Equipment Services are recommending the replacement of Engine 3. The total vehicle price is $687,591 before discounts totaling $26,303 for prepayment of the chassis and full prepayment of the engine through the Buy Board price agreement from Siddons-Martin of Denton, TX. Total cost for the engine replacement is $705,500. This price includes all related equipment to outfit the new engine.
The $34,526 trade-in value of old engine 3 will be applied to small loose equipment and design changes during the build and inspection process. This will be the first year for this type of design and build for an engine by the Grand Prairie Fire Department. An evaluation of other departments, including Cedar Hill and Ovilla Fire Departments, has been conducted. The build of this new engine is based on Ovilla Fire Department's design and specifications. Inspections are a part of the build process and change orders may be needed to meet the Fire Department's needs. Costs associated with these changes are anticipated.
