Analysis
Project 25 (P25) is a set of standards produced through the joint efforts of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International, the National Association of State Telecommunications Directors, selected Federal agencies and the National Communications System. The entire project is standardized under the Telecommunications Industry Association. The P25 set of standards involves digital Land Mobile Radio services for local, state/provincial, and national public safety organizations and agencies in order to function more efficiently during mutual aid incidents.
The Tarrant County 9-1-1 District is offering to continue a funding source for 2019 to assist and improve regional communications interoperability. The 2018 “P25 Radio Interoperability Assistance Program” has allocated of approximately $150,568.00 for the City of Grand Prairie. The available amount was based on the City’s percentage of population (approximately 7 percent) within the district. The program will reimburse the City of Grand Prairie for the purchase of a P25 compliant radio system and other related equipment along with the necessary support, maintenance, and increased interoperability issues.
This funding through the “P25 Radio Interoperability Assistance Program” requires no City cash or in-kind match and will help alleviate costs of the ongoing radio system managed services maintenance contract that may otherwise come from the general fund.
