Analysis
On May 19, 2015, the City of Grand Prairie awarded a construction contract to SYB Construction in the amount of $548,527.70 and approved a 5% contingency of $27,426.00 for a total of $575,953.70 for the FY15 Wastewater Replacements construction project.

One location included for replacement is the wastewater main at the intersection of Marshall Drive and Belt Line Road. Construction at this location began in mid-to-late August 2015. In early September, the boring and tunneling contractor encountered a hard object on the west side of Marshall Drive and Belt Line Road. After further investigation, the contractor discovered three fiber optic duct banks instead of the two that were depicted on previous subsurface utility engineering (SUE) investigations. The contractor and City staff investigated lowering the proposed bore approximately two feet, but it was later discovered that the deepest duct bank would be in conflict with this location as well. Therefore, City staff re-designed the bored crossing under Belt Line Road at approximately six feet deeper than the original plans depicted. This change is required to maintain flow in this gravity wastewater line due to the extra depth at the bore crossing. Due to construction contract limitations, the construction activities included in this Change Order/Amendment No. 2 are the first of two phases. Phase two of the wastewater project at this location will be completed at a future date. Change Order/Amendment No. 2 in the amount of $66,590 provides for the following:

- Six-foot deeper bore and receiving pits
- Changes in manhole sizes and depths
- Installing and plugging the new 8” wastewater main to approximately 50 feet east ...
