Analysis
As a part of the FY 2017 CIP budget, City Council approved $483,636 to refurbish and remount three Frazer Type I ambulances (boxes) onto three new cab/chassis. Associated costs for radios at a cost of $19,305 and $12,881 for replacing small tools and make ready to prepare the ambulance box for service.
To avoid removing all units from service at once, each unit will enter the process individually. The completion of all three units is expected by summer 2017. Depending on availability at the time a unit is delivered will determine the Dodge model year chassis (2016 or 2017) for that unit.
The old units will not be traded in, instead, they will be sold for an estimated $10,000-12,000 per chassis. This is the second year the city will be refurbishing and remounting ambulance boxes on a new chassis The savings to remount versus a new cab and chassis is approximately $40,000 per unit.
Financial Consideration
Funding for the purchase of three (3) new 2016/2017 Dodge Ram 4500 diesel DRW cab/chassis 4x4, refurbish three (3) Frazer Type I ambulances and remount on the new Dodge chassis' at a cost of $451,450, three (3) radios at a cost of $19,305, and $12,881 for small replacement tools and make ready for a total cost of $483,636 is available in the Fire Capital Projects Fund (400591), WO# 01700703 (FY17 Ambulance Replacement).
