Analysis
The City of Grand Prairie currently operates on an 800MHz radio system that provides communications to all City departments including Police, Fire, EMS, and Public Works. The 800MHz radio system functions with the use of telecommunications tower sites that house radio antennas for the continuous relay of radio signals throughout the City.
One of the radio telecommunication tower sites, an essential element of the City’s new P25 radio system’s coverage in the southern part of the City, is situated on 0.136 acres of land near the Dam at Joe Pool Lake (501 East Camp Wisdom Road, Tract 202). This land is owned by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. The City has maintained a Lease Agreement with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers to use this tract of land since 2002, with the most recent five-year Lease Agreement dated December 1, 2008.
The sole financial consideration for this five-year Lease Agreement is a one-time $400 contract administration fee.
The Public Safety, Health and Environmental Committee will review this item on September 3, 2014.
Financial Consideration
Funding for the contract administration fee of $400 is available in the FY 2014/2015 Proposed General Fund; Police Department Account 282010 - 63105 (Communication Equipment Maintenance).
