Analysis
The pumps at the Dorchester Levee are the original pumps that were installed in the early 1990s. The pumps have reached the end of their useful life. Electrical and SCADA system upgrades are also needed. The pump and pond operations should be updated to optimize their efficiency.
Freese and Nichols, Ins. (FNI) has been selected to provide these services. FNI will determine the electrical upgrades required for the replacement pumps, analyze the pump and pond operations to improve the pump capacity as part of the pump replacement while maintaining the existing pipe system and will size the pumps and related equipment. FNI will determine the appropriate size generator that is needed to operate the facility. (The purchase and installation of a generator will be a separate project at some point in the future.) The SCADA system will be expanded to include the operations of the sluice gates. FNI will also provide bidding and construction administration services as part of this contract by preparing the bid book, assist with the bid opening, and provide limited construction administration such as responding to RFI's.
