Analysis
During the holiday season, the roofs of City Hall buildings have been lined with white Christmas lights, which are in need of replacement due to weather, breakage and squirrel damage. The old lighting was traditional C9 bulbs, and the new lighting is LED, and animal proof. The proposed lighting tracks have easy to change sections, a plastic base and lid extrusion housing LED light strips so that squirrels cannot get to the wiring. The tracks can be manipulated to fit contours, the base and lid act as a conduit to conceal and protect power cords in the channel, the lights are spaced at 10” intervals to mimic the appearance of holiday lighting at night, and are outdoor rated with custom screw-type connections. This lighting system is produced by an Irving company, Inception Lighting, and is on a TIPS-USA cooperative buying contract.
While we would keep the lights on white, the LED bulbs are capable of changing colors. We would plan to use the lighting year-round to improve night visibility on campus, and add aesthetic value to downtown. Lighting can be taken down and used on another building should that be needed in the future.
The cost to line the roofs of City Hall, City Hall Annex, Finance, Parks, Court, Housing, Development Center and the CVE Public Safety Training Center is $112,725. It is 78,600 linear feet and includes installation by the vendor.
